What is CE mark?
CE is an abbreviation of the French phrase ‘ConformitĂ© EuropĂ©ene’ which literally translates as ‘European Conformity.’ The term initially used was "EC Mark" and it was officially replaced by "CE Marking" in the Directive 93/68/EEC in 1993.
What does this mean?
The CE Marking serves as a declaration from the manufacturer that their product complies with the essential requirements of the relevant European health, safety, and environmental legislation laid out in the different product directives. Once a product has been awarded the CE Marking, then it is able to move freely within the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Union (EU). CE Marking on a product permits the withdrawal of the non-conforming products by EEA customs and enforcement/vigilance authorities.
Why CE marking is required?
For a company trying to sell a product, getting a CE marking makes things much easier because it means you can sell the product anywhere in the EU. Also, it takes care of any possible hazards caused due to the use of the product. In short we can call it a symbol of quality. Hope, now you understand the meaning of CE written on the electronic device. Thank you for reading the article.
